Policies and Procedures for use of Michigan Tech's Electronic Display System (EDS)

General Information

Michigan Tech’s Electronic Display System (EDS) is designed to distribute emergency messages and campus announcements with subscription news and local weather to the university community. Messages are displayed on video monitors throughout campus, on MTU Cable TV Channel 27, and on Michigan Tech's Internet. Educational Technology Services supports this service.

All university units and student organizations registered by the Dean of Students may request the use of the Electronic Display System. Requests for message displays (not more than 60 words) must be submitted at least three days prior to the day on which the message will first be displayed. Unless previously approved by Educational Technology Services, messages will not be displayed for more than two weeks. The EDS will review proposed messages to ensure that they are consistent with the purposes for which the EDS is made available and reserves the right to reject or modify messages that are not. Messages will be displayed in the following order of priority:

• Emergency Announcements
• General Campus Announcements

Procedure

A minimum of three days notice is required for processing an EDS request. Messages will not be displayed for more than two weeks unless prior approval is obtained from EDS. An MTU department, group, or organization requesting to display a campus-related message on the Electronic Display System can send an email to eds@mtu.edu . The following information should be included in the request:

• Date(s) to be displayed:
  Sponsor/Organization:
  Name of requestor:
  Phone/email:

Please include information about the event such as who, what, when, and where. The actual text and layout may be changed to fit video display format. Contact EDS for more information about artwork and format.
